Usually people say that they are not photogenic… I say that this is the case to work on it. I am asking those people why they think they are not photogenic? How did you figure it out? You can`t determine the level of your photogenic with one picture made of your friend on the background of Eiffel Tower…
If you will cooperate with a professional photographer he will do his best to prove that you are photogenic.  Before I`ve started my photography job, I was doing some modeling, and based on the modeling and photographer`s background I would like to share with you my experience how to make your best photo session and like yourself on the photos ❤

  • Choose outfit in which you will feel comfortable. If you are not sure – take everything you want to the photo studio where you will decide with photographer what to wear. Don`t forget about the accessories.

  • Wear make-up – better the nude one. There is nothing more beautiful than natural beauty. Just make sure to highlight facial features like eyebrows, cheeks, eyelashes. Too bright unprofessional make up could cause the failure of your session. You have to choose what to highlight the lips or the eyes.

  • Choose the positions which will show your best sides. You might be far from the modeling standards of 90-60-90, but if you will take the good pose you might appear on the picture like a movie star.

  • Wear high heels even if you are not planning to take a full length portrait. Those shoes will moderate your silhouette and you will have more sexy curves.

  • Don`t hide your neck. Show it – it is beautiful. We don`t need the picture where the head grows from your chest.

  • “Spread your wings” – hear I mean to keep your shoulders and neck straight. We don`t need on the picture a person who has some spinal problems. Keep your neck straight. There are some exceptions but only for special fashion shootings.

  • The best time for shootings is morning – when you wake up and not tired. Your face is more photogenic when you are fresh and full of energy.

  1. Yes most people do believe they are not photogenic. Because the large majority of people have flaws. Such as a large nose or ears, ruddy complexion too narrow face, etc. That is why fashion models make so much money. They are near perfection, they are very rare. As a fashion model scout I have conducted fashion model searches, where hundreds of candidates had shown up. All of them wishing to become a model. Out of these hundreds I would only select those few that had the most photogenic features. That were closest to perfection. Then in a fashion photographer’s studio; lighting is chosen to make the model
even more perfect, along with the aid of a make up and hairstylist. The result is a perfect attractive looking person appearing on the cover of a magazine, that gets the attention of all the rest of us who
wish that we had that near perfection. Strange because the prefect looking model does not represent the majority of the population of humans. The rest of the population of people have their photos taken by portrait photographers, who like skilled craftsman attempt to cover up all the imperfections and flaws that the majority of people have. So the majority of us will not have our image appear on the cover of a fashion magazine. But we can still have very good photos, that represents the best we can look. Choose a good photographer to bring out the best in you.

    1. Thank you Ron, for sharing your scouting experience. This is truly complicated to pick the right model for the fashion work. Otherwise people could get fake promises and manipulations according to high earning in modelling job. And yes, modeling is not an easy profession. many of the disadvantages are not visible on the cover of fashion magazine 😉
